John Evans

As a former car salesman turned motoring writer, 'poacher turned gamekeeper' neatly sums up John's career. His writing break was on Buying Cars magazine, the first magazine to properly serve buyers of used cars, in the late 1980s. A few years later he joined Autocar as its consumer editor, followed by a stint as What Car?'s deputy editor. Cars gave way to caravans and editorship of Practical Caravan magazine followed by a couple of years as a writer on Sunday Times Driving. He went freelance in 2014. Tempted by high, post-covid used car prices he rashly sold his beloved Mazda MX-5 Mk3 for as much as he'd paid for it three years before but today derives huge pleasure from riding his Yamaha XSR900 motorcycle (with baffle removed from Akrapovich silencer, naturally).
